Packed with nourishing and delicious ingredients (along with one surprising one!), these vegan Purple Snack Shakes are the perfect sweet snack for any time of the day.
After years of experimenting with all sorts of snack shake recipes (as opposed to dessert type ones), I have finally settled on one that is good enough to make regularly not only for myself, but for Jeff and my twin boys, as well! Honestly they can’t get enough of these berry-licious drinks.
Why this Recipe Works:
- This shake recipe is super delicious and easy to make.
- These shakes are satisfying and hold me over until my next meal.
- This recipe contains ingredients that are great for the body and even better for the soul (because as everyone knows, souls like berries.)
- This is the perfect snack for someone who isn’t crazy about vegetables but would like to try and consume more of them, as there is frozen spinach blended in. What’s super awesome, though, is you would absolutely never know it! This shake is loaded with berry goodness, which completely takes charge of the flavor.
- The color of these shakes is so beautiful and enticing. (Fun fact: did you know Jeff and I share the same favorite color? And guess what it is…. PURPLE!)
Why is it called a “Snack Shake”?
- Snack shakes are healthy enough to enjoy every day and any time of day, all while knocking out that sweet tooth.

How to Make Purple Snack Shakes:

Top Tips for Making Purple Snack Shakes:
- These shakes can be made ahead of time, but are best if kept cold and consumed within 3 days.
- Make sure your canned beans have no salt added – this is very important!
- I like using frozen mixed berries in this recipe, but you can use solely blueberries, if you like. Keep in mind your shake might turn out more blue than purple in this case.
- If you’re new to using apple cider vinegar, just use 1 Tb. in your shakes, otherwise the flavor may seem overpowering. Or, simply use lemon juice instead.
- To make your shakes a little bit sweeter, you can add one or two more pitted dates.

Purple Snack Shakes
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 c. non-dairy milk (592 ml)
- 1/2 c. canned no-salt-added white beans (cannellini and navy beans work well) drained and rinsed*
- 3 dates pitted and roughly chopped*
- 2 - 2 1/2 c. fresh or frozen mixed berries (such as blueberries, raspberries and strawberries)
- 1 c. frozen spinach
- 1 - 2 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar or lemon juice (15 ml - 30 ml)
- *Alternatively, you can use a scoop of vanilla plant based protein powder instead of the beans. If your protein powder is sweetened, leave out the dates.
